Introduction to the Hobby of Flying RC Planes
The remote control planes hobby is about buying, building, and fixing RC model planes. Flying gas powered and electric rc planes, jets, and helicopters is one of the fun and fastest growing hobbies around. Flying rc planes are so popular these days, everybody seems to be getting into the hobby. You can learn to fly rc planes and helicopters from a non-powered glider to a really fast rc jet that zip along at speeds of up to 200 MPH......
Ready to fly, Almost Ready to Fly Or Kid?
I strongly recommend the beginner start with a ready to fly (RTF) model that has a high wing over fuselage design. Most RTF planes allow you to get into the hobby with little or no building experience. Actually, most RTF model kits take no more than a few hours from box to first flight. One of the most popular RTF models is the Firebird. It's a completely ready to fly model, which is a great bargain considering all that the kit entailes.
The Park Flyer series has many popular remote model planes, because they have built into their designs, the ability to compensate for beginner's mistakes. If you get into any of the trouble while flying any of these models, all you need to do is let go of the controls, and the model should return to straight and level flight.
Gas Powered or Electric?
After you determine whether you want an RTF/ARTF/KIT or not,you are ready to make up your mind whether it will be gas or electric powered. We recommend electric models for the beginner because all you need to do is just fully charge the battery and you are off.
Remote Control Planes, Helicopters or Jets?
Which model you decide to go with basically depends on whether you have any experience with rc flight or not. RC electric planes are the easiest one to learn to fly among these three for beginners. And RC Jets are a bit more difficult and should only be flown by experienced pilots. RC Helicopters need a lot more practice to fly freely and correctly, they are usually more expensive than remote control planes or jets.
